We Are Living Legends

Who We Are

We are the strength of the young and growing population of young women that will be mothers in the future, ceo's, organizers and more. We show young girls how to see the future them, and not just see it, but also cultivate it by today's choices.

Within our organization we have strong powerful women that have turned their hurdles, into fuel for their dreams. And from personal experience, we know how hard that is to cultivate. At Living Legends we try to utilize skills we have developed in our personal and professional lives to encourage growth amongst our youth. We also have strong resourceful men in our organization as well that give us the masculine perspective needed to also guide our young women with understanding the opposite sex.

We were born out of the need and demand of the young women we serve and banded together to form an organization that would offer year-round support. Becoming a source of strength for these young women. Our 9-member board is made up of professionals who are committed to insuring that we are always going to be available for girls for years to come.

Living Legends is an eclectic mix of professional and caring adults that have decided to come together, and form an organization that takes care of young women.

We realize the huge hurdles that women face everyday by being under-paid in the workforce, taken advantage of by the other sex, and having to be the bearer of children while in certain cases going through all of these things simultaneously! Without proper guidance, handling these things on your own can crush the spirits of even the strongest women. We decided that if we were to help women, we would need to start the process at the root before it grew. Hence why we start with girls ages 13-18.

Studies show that majority of girls start facing the harshest of hurdles as early as age 12. We're talking rape - which 1 in 3 women have experienced, harrasment, sexism, depression, low self esteem, and the list goes on. We figure if we can get in touch with these young girls before the issues develop, we can stop their suffering and prevent any further damage. We do this by helping build peer to peer support groups, connecting them with other girls that are going through the same experience. Or by giving them our testimonial since the majority of us are females, for them to hear our story and see that we came out better on the other side. This method helps lessen the gravity of any hurdle they think is bigger than they are.

What We Do

It's very easy to tell girls, ‘Be strong, you are beautiful, you are capable, don’t do this, do that, don’t worry about that, who cares what others think, etc. What is missing is
the idea of instilling worth. How do we raise a girl to feel she is worthy — worthy of good friends, worthy of healthy relationships, worthy of speaking her mind and of being heard, worthy of her dreams, worthy of trying something nobody else has done?

If someone doesn’t feel worthy, they might do something they don’t really want to do, because they don’t have the courage
or strength to say so. They may be coming from a place of fear rather than a place of personal love, respect and power.

Here at Living Legends, we teach girls that they are valuable and have a voice, by giving them information, tools, and resources to use. When girls feel confident about their bodies, their intelligence, their worthiness and their sexuality, they have the opportunity to go into the world and fully express themselves — as girls, as women, as humans. If we spend too much time having conversations with ourselves about not being good enough, pretty enough, sexy enough or accepted enough, we are limiting ourselves to what we think the world thinks of us, rather than putting forth what we think of ourselves, what we find important, what we want to contribute to the world.

Everyone has something important to share, and if that beautiful energy is wasted, then the world never gets to see it, and a girl misses out on what it feels like to be strong, free, worthy and capable.

We are here to educate, empower and inspire girls by raising awareness, developing communication skills and cultivating self respect.

How We Do It

Providing Education

We help connect young girls that may be struggling in school figure out why the are struggling. Is it home life that's intruding with focus? Or are they not being challenged enough to the point that they just don't care anymore? Once we talk to them and understand their point of view, we properly take the necessary steps to catch them back up, whether that means hiring them a professional tutor, or even helping them sort out their home life, whatever needs to be done we will do to ensure their success.

Supporting Young Women In Crisis

Millions of girls are subjected to abuse, bullying, and other offenses. We go where we are needed most, and equip them with skilled, local staff to offer training, education, counseling, or even perhaps medical care in extreme cases — then take the necessary steps to help end cycles or stints of gender-based violence.

Mentoring Our Youth

A growing poverty rate, poor-performing schools, and teen violence make it tough to be a girl growing up in the United States. Living Legends we reach out and influence the lives of a young girl in the community by volunteering to be mentors to them. Guidance counselors to them. And if we are able and they need it, even tutors to them. We will go above the line of duty to make sure our young woman overcome hurdles.

Empowering Through Loving Speech

Empowering women starts right in our families, workplaces, and neighborhoods. Write a note of thanks to that teacher who encouraged you years ago, pick up coffee for that new mom in your office who’s struggling to balance it all, or tell your own sister, daughter, or mother how much you appreciate them. We learned that these little gestures, especially when done to the youth, decrease young woman's chance of having to find love in all the wrong places.
